RRCA Certified Race Director

Hi Everyone,

Several months back, I was asked by the Senior Race Director at Dave’s Running, Clint McCormick, if i’d be interested in becoming a race director.  The Race Management side of Dave’s Running has been growing and in order to add more new events, they would need additional Race Directors.

As usual, I said Yes, THEN proceeded to figure out just what a race directer actually did.  Ok, maybe that wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve ever done, but it was too late now.

I started to Apprentice with Clint one or two evenings a week and then registered to take the RRCA’s Race Director Certification Class.

I received the manual, Yikes!!  It’s over 300 pages!!  Ok, so I started to read, and read and read and take notes.  Oh Yea, and as a requirement, you need to log in and participate in (6) online webinars, each lasting anywhere from 60 minutes to 1 1/2 hours .  Then, Yes, there’s more! You need to take an examination, WHAT? Yea, the Test Anxiety started to creep back in from back in my High School days.  Ok, relax, have a glass of wine!!  It’ll be ok!

Fast forward, on Friday, December 22nd, I finished the last webinar and on Saturday, December 23rd, I took the exam.  I’m happy and relieved to say that I passed it! Yea!

So what what am I going to be doing you ask?  Well, I’m going to start by focusing on five of the Multi-Sport Events for 2018. With the support of the entire Dave’s Team,  I will be the Race Director for the Dooby DU Duathlon, on April 29th, the South Fork Duathlon on May 9th, the Dooby Two Duathlon on May 23rd, the Whitehouse Duathlon on June 3rd, (Series finale) and the Trillium women’s only Triathlon / Duathlon on July 22nd.  I may take on additional events in 2019 as I firm up my retirement date from my day job.  But, more on that later.

I’m really excited to enter the next phase of my career.  I want to thank Jamie and Matt Mason and Clint McCormick for believing in me and I intend to work very hard to make them not regret their decision.

To the Participants; as it is the goal of all of the Run Toledo / Dave’s Running events, it’s also my goal to insure that your experience is enjoyable and memorable. After all, we are a “No Worries” event service!!!

Until next time …. Happy Running!

Rich,
