2017 Year End Recap and 2018 Goals

Hi Everyone!

Wow, 2017 is over!!  Where did the year go?  What a crazy running year it’s been though!  Am I right?

A few things first.  Please understand, that this blog post is not intended to be me bragging or to feed my Ego, as it may come off that way.  My goal with this Blog has always been to  promote a healthy, active lifestyle and that AGE should not be a limiting factor.  I will be 60 in June and if I can do this, anyone can.  My hope is that by posting what I do here and on Social Media, if I can encourage just ONE person to change their lifestyle and become more active, it is well worth it.

Secondly, my goal for this year was to Run.All.The.Miles. What I mean by that is, as many of you close to me know,  I went through a very difficulty personal time in my life this year, and by staying supper active, there was less time to focus on the negative.  It Worked!!!

2017 Year in Review

So I could start off by giving you all of the stats, but more important than the numbers, were all of the new friendships developed and old friendships deepened. Believe me, I have been so blessed in this area.  From two amazing Ragnar Relay Teams, to my Tour Des Friends Cycle Team, to my Oleander 24 Hour Race Team, to my PR5k & Fall MIT Teams I coached, to my Run Toledo Ambassador Group, I have been so fortunate to have been surrounded by so many amazing, encouraging and supportive people this year.  It is truly a Family!

My Millage goal for 2017 was 1,000 miles.  I hit 1,118.2, which is 273.3 miles improvement over the 844.9 from 2016. I’ll take it considering I was sidelined for almost a month due to a foot injury that occurred during the Michigan Ragnar Ultra Race.

2018 Goals

While 2017, was the year of Run.All.The.Miles, 2018 will be the year to Focus.  Three Major Events:

  1. Spring Marathon – Glass City Marathon – April 22, 2018
  2. IRONMAN 70.3 – Ohio – July 29th, 2018
  3. Fall Marathon – (either Marine Corps Marathon, Las Vegas Rock & Roll or Detroit International)

Lastly, Im going to be taking on a new role in the Running Community in 2018, not ready to announce that yet, but it will be coming soon. I’m supper excited about this.

So to close, thank you Friends for reading, commenting and supporting this blog.  I’ve enjoyed writing it and look forward to continuing it in 2018

So Until Next Time … Happy Running!

Rich.

  1. Awesome! At the beginning of January, I could barely run 2 miles and didn’t know anyone in the running community. The glass city half was my first half ever. I even went out of my comfort zone and did my first duathalon in the summer. There is so much I want to do in 2018! I’d love to do the Vegas half, just waiting for registration to open. Good luck to you on your Ironman training. Maybe someday that will be my goal. 😁
